Almost every concrete failure we get called out to look at is a base failure wearing a concrete costume. The slab did not fail; the ground under it did. Because we handle the excavation and the pour ourselves, there is no seam in the work and nobody to point at when the ground moves.

Concrete removal and tear-out
Breaking out and hauling away failed driveways, patios, walkways and slabs. We take the old concrete out properly rather than pouring over the top of it, because an overlay on a broken base just reproduces the same crack a year later.
Base preparation and compaction
Stripping topsoil, bringing in and compacting the right base material to the right depth. Topsoil holds water and compresses under load — concrete needs something that will not move underneath it.
Dirt work and landscaping support

Why the Same Crew Should Do Both
When excavation and concrete are split between two contractors, the base is somebody else's work by the time the pour happens. If the slab settles, each blames the other, and you are left holding it. We remove that problem by doing both — the crew that compacts the base is the crew that has to stand behind the concrete on top of it.

What does an excavation contractor actually do on a concrete job?
Everything that happens before the truck arrives: removing existing concrete or turf, digging to the right depth, grading so water runs away from the structure, and building and compacting a base the slab can sit on without settling.
Do I need excavation if I am just adding a patio?
Almost always, yes — at minimum stripping topsoil and building a compacted base. Topsoil holds water and compresses; concrete poured straight onto it settles and cracks. How much digging depends on your grade and drainage.
Can you remove my old driveway or patio?
Yes. Concrete removal and tear-out is part of what we do, and because the same crew pours the replacement there is no gap in responsibility between demolition and the new slab.
Do you do dirt work that is not attached to a concrete pour?

How does drainage affect my concrete?
More than anything else. Water that sits under a slab softens the base and lets the slab move; water that runs toward the house causes a much more expensive problem than a cracked patio. Getting the fall right during excavation is what keeps both from happening.
Will my yard be wrecked?
Machinery leaves marks — we will not pretend otherwise, and we will tell you in advance where equipment needs to travel. We leave the job site clean, and we plan access to do the least damage we can while still getting the work done properly.
